Assistant Professor of Political Science

Florida Gulf Coast University

Hello! I am an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Florida Gulf Coast University. I completed my Ph.D. in Political Science at UCLA in June of 2025 with concentrations in American politics and research methods. My research examines political communication and the ways the evolving news environment has shaped political polarization, representation, participation, and local journalism. I combine large-scale data collection with advanced causal inference techniques, and I also conduct survey experiments to test how changes in political media affect Americans’ attitudes and behavior.

My dissertation explored how local news is changing and the consequences for local politics. I studied how shifts in news ownership, production frequency, and content has influenced the ways in which Americans access political information and how they engage with local politics. Currently, I am conducting research on the ways political language and media framing shape public understanding and political behavior. I also conduct research on the effects of anti-LGBT legislation on political behavior and attitudes.

My work has been supported by the American Political Science Association, the Rapaport Family Foundation, and the UCLA Political Psychology Fellowship. I have presented research in venues such as the APSA, WPSA, and MPSA annual meetings, as well as the Local Journalism Researchers Conference, and my work is published and forthcoming at several high impact journals. If you are interested in my work or just want to chat, feel free to reach out!
